Granny Squares - A Classic

Granny Squares - A Classic

Granny Squares are a recurring trend that pops up in different forms from time to time. In the blink of an eye, we see them everywhere in fashion, krea magazines and on social media in countless varieties and colors. This proves that they are on the crochet hook of many people again, and that the old crochet classic has once again been given new life.

The beautiful great-grandmother squares can also do just about anything, because there are so many possibilities with the beautiful patches - Bags, cushions, blankets, tops, potholders, bookmarks just to name a few. You can put your very own personal touch on them with the countless color combinations, and they are both fun and quick to crochet.

The repetitions in the pattern ensure that there is some order in the project, while the color choices and yarn choices create some special uniqueness.

BITE OF A MULTI-COLOR SQUARE
Admittedly...We ourselves have been bitten by crocheting squares, and find it hard to put down the crochet clothes when we are sitting with the many color options.
Quite exceptionally, we have chosen a total multi-colour color mix with 18 different colours. For each fig, we use 6 colours. We want to make all the squares different so that no two are alike. With 18 colours, there are an incredible number of possibilities, but since the colors repeat many of them, there will still be a good continuous connection in them. In addition, we crochet the last and 6th round on our squares in the same color, so that the colors of the first 5 rounds really come into their own when they are assembled..

A PERFECT BRING ALONG PROJECT
Pia is on a long trip around Europe in a motorhome with her family. Here the desire suddenly came to make a delicious blanket in great-grandmother squares. On a trip like this, it is perfect to have a project that you can easily go to and from, and which at the same time varies in relation to which colors you are working with.

We don't quite know where it will end because we have lots of ideas. Perhaps it will both become a blanket, a bag or something completely different. But a lot of squares are needed - so we start with that.

USE YOUR LEFTOVERS
The crocheted squares are perfect for using up your leftover yarn, also across yarn types. If you want a clean expression, you should use the same type of yarn for the entire project. If you want it to be a little wilder, go crazy with all yarn types and sizes. If you can get the squares roughly the same size, they are easier to put together in the end.

There are a lot of recipes for the great-grandmother squares in many forms, which you can easily google. We have created a recipe for the version we are working with - you will find it soon here.

Once we have crocheted many squares to fit, we will update the pattern with instructions for what they can be used for, how to wash and block them. In addition, there will also be good advice and techniques for how they can be crocheted or sewn together.
